CALL Project - Teaching-Learning English by Using TED-Ed

 

Hi, Guys! Have you ever heard 'TED-Ed'? Do you know what is that? Perhaps some of you already know what TED-Ed is. But, for those who don't know TED-Ed, just check it out! 😉

    TED-Ed is a platform to create and learn lessons, mostly in the form of assignment, by using a video to asses students' engagement toward the material. The video can be from Youtube, the creation, or the section of specially-currated 'TED-Ed Originals' that features lessons co-created by educators in the world. The video aims to give a hint in answering the question or to assess the students' accuracy. 

    The lesson format in TED-Ed consists of 'Let's Begin', 'Think', 'Dig Deeper', 'Discuss', and 'And Finally'. The further explanation will be elaborated with the steps to create lesson by using TED-Ed as follow:

How to Create Lesson by Using TED-Ed

 1. Go to https://ed.ted.com.

2. Make an account by clicking 'Register'.

3. Click 'Create-Lesson' or you can search the video first, it's up to you. 

4. After selecting the video, you will be guided into the creating dashboard.

5. Change the title if you want.

6. Describe your lesson briefly in part of 'Let's Begin'. It is such kind of an introduction.

7. In part of 'Think', create assignment in the form of Multiple Choice ('ABCD' or 'true false' ) or Open Answer Question. In this part, you can give a prompt through the video like what minute the answer or the hint. 

8. Put additional resources (i.e link of journal, web) for encouraging further exploration in part of 'Dig Deeper'. Or you can also explain a little bit wider.

9. Put a question(s) in part of 'Discuss' to encourage the students more interactive. 

10. Give closing statement in 'And Finally'.

You (teacher) will receive a notification if the students have completed the assignment. Next, you can review their work. Their individual responses can be downloaded as a file of CSV and imported into Excel.

How to learn English by Using TED-Ed

1. Do the instruction no. 1 and 2 above.

2. Click 'Discover' or you can directly type the topic in search box.

3. Play the video and do the assignment.
